HBO recibió 107 nominaciones a los 2020 Primetime Emmy® Awards, con WATCHMEN como la serie más nominada del año, llegando a 26 nominaciones incluyendo la categoría de Mejor Serie Limitada. Asimismo, se destacó la serie dramática SUCCESSION empatando la mayor cantidad de nominaciones para una serie de drama, con 18, entre ellas Mejor Serie Dramática. WESTWORLD fue reconocida con 11 nominaciones, mientras que LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER e INSECURE obtuvieron 9 y 8, respectivamente.

EUPHORIA recibió 6 nominaciones, entre ellas Mejor Actriz en una Serie Dramática para Zendaya; y BIG LITTLE LIES obtuvo 5, incluyendo Mejor Actriz de Reparto en una Serie Dramática, tanto para Laura Dern como Meryl Streep. La película BAD EDUCATION también se llevó dos nominaciones en las categorías de Mejor Película para Televisión y Mejor Actor en una Serie Limitada o Película por la actuación de Hugh Jackman.
